SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST

WORK LOCATION: YouthSource, 500 SW 7th Street Suite 200, Renton 98057

REPORTS TO: Grace Kong, Program Manager III

WORK SCHEDULE: This position works a 35 hour work week; Monday through Friday; 8:30AM – 4:30PM and is not overtime eligible. Position begins May 1st 2009 and ends September 30th 2009.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: This position will work with a team of similar positions to place at-risk youth in summer youth employment opportunities. Primary job functions include:
1. Recruitment and eligibility of 30+ low-income youth or youth with learning disabilities
2. Host information and orientation sessions for youth and worksite supervisors
3. Identification and networking of local employers to supervise youth
4. Workforce Investment Act enrollment paperwork
5. Counseling of youth
6. Monitor youth progress at employment sites
7. Record and maintain youth schedule and attendance
8. Evaluate youth behavior and employability skills
9. Communicate with Program Manager III regarding progress of job placements
10. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience preferred.
2. Ability/Experience working with youth with barriers to employment (low-income, foster care, offender matters, disability)
3. Knowledge of learning assessments and work readiness 4.Ability/Experience working with employers (job placement)
5. Problem-solving and analytical skills
6. Basic team-building skills
7. Communications skills (oral and written)
8. Interpersonal skills
9. Facilitation skills
10. Decision making skills
11. Classroom management skill
12. Conflict-resolution skills
13. Skill in the use of a personal computer, word processing and database management software
14. Ability to pass a Washington State Background Check
15. Valid Washington State Driver’s License or the ability to travel around the County in a timely manner.
