ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
Senior Services, with an annual budget of approximately $15 million, offers a comprehensive network of services to more than 54,000 older adults and their families throughout King County. Our programs and senior centers are passionate about promoting the emotional, social, and physical well-being of older adults. Since 1967 Senior Services has been a leader in connecting older adults with high quality services that support them to live active lives while enabling them to make their own choices to suit their lifestyles and preferences. Our services:
Inform, protect, support and advocate
Caregiver Outreach and Support: practical resources, caregiver support and counseling, caregiver training, and help navigating the maze of potential services
Senior Information & Assistance: help and advice from trained advocates who have access to more than 7,000 resources in our databank
Senior Outreach: assistance sorting out complex issues and reducing barriers to accessing health and social services, referrals to critical services, encouragement and connection
Senior Rights Assistance: help and advice from trained volunteers with assistance from our legal advisor on consumer, homeowner, estate, retirement planning, or health insurance issues as well as advocacy and support for older victims of crime
Promote health and strength
EnhanceFitness: aerobic exercise and strength training specifically designed for older adults with evidence-based results
EnhanceWellness: structure, motivation and encouragement for older adults to take on health challenges and maintain or regain control of their lives.
Enable seniors to remain independent and safe at home
Meals on Wheels and Mobile Market: nutritious frozen meals and home delivered groceries to homebound seniors
Minor Home Repair: basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical and other repairs and modifications such as installation of grab bars, handrails and ramps
Homesharing: expert matching of homeowners and renters providing both more affordable housing and the companionship of living with another person
Transportation: to medical appointments, community dining sites, senior center activities, grocery shopping, and errands.
Promote relationships and meaningful engagement in the community
Community Dining: 28 community dining sites, ethnic dietician, nutrition education, supportive services
Community Engagement: opportunities for more than 8,000 volunteers to stay connected after retiring from fulltime work and to find meaningful roles with Senior Services or other organizations
Senior Centers: take classes, keep fit, meet new, interesting people and visit with old friends, or share a meal
Senior Services’ approximately 250 caring and experienced employees are led by a dynamic, highly-effective visionary who has been a leader in the aging field for over 30 years. We also have a truly dedicated, supportive board and a whole network of community partners. We have been a major player in the aging field for more than 40 years and are looking forward to inspiring the newest cohort, the Baby Boomers.
JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a highly intelligent, energetic, inspirational leader responsible for the overall direction and management of the Information and Assistance program and related projects, ensuring consistency with organizational strategy, consistency of process across program projects, and customer satisfaction both within and external to the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage program staff to include (but not limited to) performance management, teambuilding, training/mentoring, and use of resources. Maintain a high quality and diverse staff.
2. Establish and maintain strong relationships with other agencies and organizations in the community offering similar and/or complementary services, particularly organizations specializing in serving diverse elders.
3. Prepare and maintain records and reports, such as budgets, staff and program data, or training manuals.
4. Direct activities of professional and technical paid and unpaid staff members.
5. Provide leadership on cultural competence with staff and in the program, including ongoing education on institutional racism and cultural competence, goal setting, and implementation.
6. Provide oversight of staff and program cultural competency goal setting, implementation, and accomplishment of such goals.
7. Research and analyze Senior Services or community needs in order to ensure that I&A program directions and goals effectively meet these needs.
8. Represent Senior Services in relations with governmental, private business, and media institutions.
9. Monitor and assure compliance with contract performance standards, quality control, program evaluations and all other contractual obligations of the programs.
10. Participate as program representative on assigned committees and task forces, etc.
11. Participate in the preparation of funding proposals, grant applications and other written materials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1. Combination of four years of college-level education and human service work experience, with a minimum of two years of direct work experience in human services or related programs OR any combination of education, experience and measurable performance which demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position.
2. At least one year experience in providing customer services such as customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
3. At least one year experience and/or education in staff performance, learning and motivation, and group behavior and dynamics.
4. At least two years experience managing day-to-day to program operations and budget preparation and oversight.
5. Computer experience to including a working knowledge of MS Office and database programs.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including group motivation, conflict management, diplomacy and communicating information and ideas in speaking and writing so others will understand.
7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to plan, organize, and implement multiple projects simultaneously.
8. Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
9. Working with and valuing contributions of unpaid staff.
10. Ability to collect and manage data.
11. Experience with change management in an organizational setting is preferred.
12. Demonstrated understanding of institutional racism and ability to model and expand undoing institutional racism and building cultural competence.
13. Willingness and ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural and economic backgrounds, with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and of all ages.
Salary and Benefits
$23.90 – $27.48, depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, disability, life insurance, 401(k), flexible spending accounts, paid vacation, sick leave and 12 paid holidays.
