Hours/Location: 40 hours per week. Applicants must have flexible schedules and be available during normal business hours. Location is Tukwila, WA.
Compensation: Begins at $16.00/hr, plus excellent benefits: vacation and sick leave, holiday pay, 401K, employee medical/dental benefits
Primary Responsibilities: This multi-faceted, contract-funded position is responsible for:
• Conducting education and outreach in order to reach out to and increase awareness of older survivors of domestic violence, in the community and with other human service providers.
• Providing advocacy-based counseling for survivors of domestic violence, with a specific focus on older survivors, including domestic violence education, safety planning, legal advocacy and connection to community resources.
• Starting and facilitating a support group for older survivors.
• Enhancing relationships and linkages with service providers and other stakeholders who serve older adults.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field. Relevant work experience can be substituted for the educational requirement.
• Must have a minimum of 20 hours of basic training covering theory and implementation of advocacy-based counseling and domestic violence issues.
• One year of recent experience providing advocacy services in the violence against women arena, with an emphasis on advocacy with older survivors.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, listening skills, and a demonstrated ability to foster a supportive client environment.
• Ability to work in a confidential manner and in a confidential setting.
• A strong commitment to DAWN’s mission and values.
• Experience with and ability to work as a team member and positive contributor to a workplace environment, and to work to ensure the success of others.
• Own transportation, a valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
• Current CPR/First Aid, or able to secure within one month of employment.
