Summary: Senior Policy Analyst needed for SEIU Healthcare 775NW’s Public Affairs Department to engage in policy and research on local, state, and federal long-term care and health care issues. SEIU Healthcare 775NW represents almost 40,000 long-term care workers in Washington and Montana.
Job Description: The Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for leading research and policy work to help the SEIU Healthcare 775NW Public Affairs team in advancing our mission: to unite all long-term care workers and lead the way to a more just and humane society. We work to ensure quality jobs for long-term care workers and quality care for seniors and people with disabilities.
Duties include:
- Developing and implementing a multi-year research and policy development plan that helps build support for progressive long-term care and health care reforms, including stable and adequate financing, living wages and good benefits for caregivers, improved workforce development and training, and quality care for vulnerable clients and residents.
- Researching and producing studies, white papers, and other reports that call attention to issues facing long-term care consumers and workers and build support for progressive policy solutions.
- Partnering with allied organizations like advocates for seniors and people with disabilities and other policy organizations on our research and policy development work.
- Providing general research and policy support to our government affairs staff, officers, and federal contract lobbyists to support our work on Federal health and long-term care issues, including expanding home and community-based options for seniors and people with disabilities.
- Providing general research and policy support to our government affairs staff, officers, and contract lobbyists to support our work on state health and long-term care issues, including nursing home reimbursement, training and workforce development, economic justice for low-wage long-term care workers, and financing for long-term care services.
Job Qualifications: Applicants should have
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong research skills, including proficient use of spreadsheets, word processing, database and Internet research tools;
- At least five years experience in policy research and analysis work including experience developing and leading research and policy projects and leading other staff.
- Experience and knowledge about state budget, health care, long-term care, and/or Medicaid issues
- Ability to take direction, work independently and coordinate work with other stakeholders;
- Experience collaborating with coalitions and other organizations on policy and research projects.
- Willingness to be an advocate for SEIU’s mission and vision; and
